Membership Rules – A. C. Joshi Library, Panjab University

The following individuals and groups are eligible to borrow books from the Library after obtaining their Membership Pass Books / Reader’s Tickets, duly signed or facsimile-stamped by the Librarian.

Applications for membership must be:

Submitted on the prescribed form
Recommended by the competent authority
Obtained from the Cashier, Panjab University, Chandigarh
Accompanied by the prescribed fee (as decided by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time)

Note: The requirement of submitting an application form does not apply to the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor.

Eligible Members

1. University Authorities

Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, and Fellows of the University
Members of Faculties, Boards, and Committees

2. Teaching Community

Teaching staff of the University and affiliated colleges
Re-employed teachers (valid only during re-employment tenure)

3. Students

Students officially enrolled in teaching departments
Students may continue consultation privileges during the interim period between examination clearance and next session enrollment (July)

4. Research Scholars

Approved candidates for:

M.Phil
Ph.D.
M.E.
M.Pharm.
D.Sc.
D.Litt.

Security Deposit: ₹1000 (Refundable)

University Employees

All confirmed employees are eligible for Library membership.

Class B & C employees	₹500

Special Borrowing Membership

The Librarian may enroll special borrowing members or renew old memberships with approval from the Dean of University Instruction.

Annual Subscription: ₹2,000
Refundable Security: ₹4,000
Retired University Employees: Security reduced to ₹1,500

Institutional & Inter-Library Membership

Eligible institutions include:

Libraries with established inter-loan relationships
Institutions approved by the Vice-Chancellor or Dean of University Instruction

Alumni Membership

Patron Members

Refundable Security: ₹5,000
Annual Fee: ₹500

Superannuated Life Members

Refundable Security: ₹4,000
Annual Fee: ₹1,000

Other Life Members

After 5 years of enrollment in the P.U. Alumni Association:

Eligible under same terms as above
Membership limited to 25 members

Institutional Industry Membership

Available to industrial, business, and commercial organizations under the Industry–Institute Partnership Programme.

Refundable Security: ₹10,000
Annual Renewal Fee: ₹2,500
